Rieko Izumi

I am an Official Jolly Phonics Trainer based in Japan. I have been teaching with Jolly Phonics since 2016 and became an official trainer in 2023. I also hold Type 1 Teaching Certificates for English at both junior and senior high school level in Japan. I support children learning English in an EFL environment, where they have limited exposure to English outside the classroom. My training helps children develop not only phonics knowledge, but also practical reading and writing skills through clear, structured, and enjoyable lessons. One of my key areas of interest is the practical use of Jolly Classroom, Jolly Learning’s digital teaching platform. I support teachers in using it for smooth lesson delivery, effective revision, home practice, and step-by-step reading and writing development. I also have experience supporting learners with various reading and writing difficulties. I value Jolly Phonics’ multi-sensory features, such as stories, actions, songs, blending, segmenting, and letter formation, because they make learning more accessible and memorable. I also help Japanese teachers connect Jolly Phonics and Jolly Grammar with the wider goals of English education in Japan, and bring Jolly Phonics to life in a practical, child-friendly way for EFL learners.
