I experienced teaching Jolly Phonics in Brunei in 2003. It was an awesome 7 years, as our school had been known all over the country. Then, I just thought that if the Bruneians can use that for reading, why couldn't I use it in our country, where many children had difficulties in reading. Then in 2012, we came home in the Philippines, leaving the family's comfort zone (husband is working in the government). I put up my own pre-school using Jolly Phonics. It has proven that Filipinos can be able to use it! In 2013, I met Chris Jolly and he assigned me to be the trainer here in the Philippines. It was indeed an honor for me! With the help of Ms. Beverly, a trainer from Hongkong, I started to learn how to be a trainer. The goal of just teaching the children, became broader as the teacher in my country can teach the proper way of reading, the Jolly Phonics way. Now, with our pre-school running 14 years, our graduates are the living testimonies how great the program is. Our school became the center as well of my small onsite training. Mostly, trainings were done online, especially during pandemic, where we reached out Filipino teachers and parents as well, all over the country and some, working overseas. I helped some teachers to put up their own reading centers too.
