Lucy is an experienced Key Stage 1 teacher and has been teaching for 12 years in an inner London school in one of the most deprived boroughs in London. She has seen first-hand the impact that Jolly Phonics can have on children’s reading and writing skills. Lucy believes that the approach with its mix of formal and kinaesthetic learning allows all children to access phonics and build the fundamental skills required for reading and writing.
Lucy has modelled lessons and training for the delivery of synthetic phonics to EYFS and KS1 practitioners from all around the world. Lucy has also been involved in reviewing and trialing Jolly Learning materials, including Jolly Classroom. Lucy has also presented at the Jolly Conference about the impact that Jolly Phonics has had on learners in her school.
Lucy is an English Lead in her current school and specialises in early reading and writing. She supports ECTs and coaches them in the delivery of phonics. In addition to this, she delivers training to teaching assistants in her current setting. She has a National Professional Qualification in Leading Literacy.
