  • What is Synthetic Phonics?

    Systematic Synthetic Phonics (SSP) teaches children to read and write by connecting sounds (phonemes) with written symbols (graphemes) from the beginning. English has an alphabetic code, which is extremely complicated and so needs to be taught systematically.

    Children learn to decode unfamiliar words by sounding them out, and encode words by identifying the individual sounds and writing the matching letters. This approach allows them to read independently, spell with greater accuracy and builds confidence in both reading and writing from an early stage.
