Teacher guidance:

Use flashcards to briefly revise the letter sounds already taught. Revise the formation of one or two letters.

What to do:
  • Show flashcards of taught letter sounds. Pupils say each sound once and do the action.
  • Choose 2 or 3 letters to write on the board. While this is being done the children form the letters in the air.

Teacher guidance:

Use the Finger Phonics Big Book to introduce and tell the story related to the new letter sound.

What to do:
  • Highlight words from the story that include the sound /y/. Ask pupils to think of and share other words with the same sound.
  • Show the ‹y› flashcard, then do the action and say the /y/ sound together as a class.
  • Add the new piece of wall frieze to your classroom display.
