Teacher guidance:
Use flashcards to briefly revise the letter sounds already taught. Revise the formation of one or two letters.
What to do:
- Show flashcards of taught letter sounds. Pupils say each sound once and do the action.
- Choose 2 or 3 letters to write on the board. While this is being done the children form the letters in the air.

Seven books guiding children through letter formation in Jolly Phonics sound groups. With line guides, dotted letters, word writing and teacher or parent notes, they build fine motor skills, reinforce phonics knowledge and connect sounds to print in writing practice.
LEARNING THE LETTER SOUND

Colourful displays of 72 tricky words in six flower sets. Each word is added around the central hat as taught, giving children clear visual cues that make locating and recalling tricky words engaging and effective.

Story and Action
Teacher guidance:
Use the Finger Phonics Big Book to introduce and tell the story related to the new letter sound.
What to do:
- Highlight words from the story that include the sound /ar/. Ask pupils to think of and share other words with the same sound.
- Show the ‹ar› flashcard, then do the action and say the /ar/ sound together as a class.
- Add the new piece of wall frieze to your classroom display.
